Christmas means different things to different people but I think that everyone will agree that it just wouldn’t be Christmas without The Snowman. Now you and your family can experience a screening of the film accompanied by a live orchestra in the beautiful surroundings of Winchester Cathedral.
Carrot Productions are the experts at bringing classic animations and stories to life, and 2019 is the seventh time they have staged The Snowman performances. Alongside the main film there is also a second animation, specially commissioned by Carrot Productions. A Donkey’s Tale is the heart-warming story of Dillon the Donkey, an ordinary donkey with an extraordinary dream that takes him on a journey that will change his life. It has been specially written and composed by Daniel Whibley with original songs.
Other elements which make these events so popular with families include:
• A fun introduction to the orchestra, which draws from some of the top musicians in the country, many of whom are members of such prolific orchestras as The Hallé and the BBC Philharmonic
• Every performance features a young soloist from the local area singing the Walking in the Air solo which lies at the heart of the Snowman. Auditions are held in the Autumn, with local Music Hubs and Cathedral Choirmasters helping to find suitable soloists to take up this superb opportunity.
• A rousing Christmas overture
• A visit from the organisation’s very own snowman!
Performances at Winchester Cathedral take place on Saturday 14th Dec 2019 at 1.00pm, 3.00pm & 7.15pm.
Tickets are also available for the nationwide tour, with venues including Salisbury, Coventry, Chester, Lichfield, Liverpool and Ely cathedrals.
