Review ~ Mud and Bloom May Subscription Box

We were all very excited to receive the May subscription box from Mud and Bloom to try out.

We’re not very experienced or adventurous as gardeners just yet, but we did have success last summer with growing carrots, spinach and radishes, and our parsley and rosemary plants do seem to have survived the snowy winter. So far this year we’ve planted some strawberry seeds, and roses, ranunculus, petunias and a clematis. We’re waiting for a raised bed and herb trug to be built so that we can get our veggies going again (nudge nudge Daddy)

What was in the box?

Sweet Pea seeds and pumpkin seeds, with step-by-step instructions about how to start growing indoors and then transfer outside.

Two craft activities – finding leaves, flowers and feathers to make a nature crown and mask, plus how to make a nature loom.

A nature quiz and a photo checklist of minibeasts to find in the garden or out for a walk.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Everything you need to complete all of the activities comes in the box, including the glue and elastic needed for the mask and plant label sticks. Each instruction sheet is printed on quality card and the instructions are clear (and suitable for beginners!) The illustrations are really appealing and not too ‘childlike’.

What did we think?

Although we were thwarted at times by the weather, we really enjoyed all of the activities, especially making the nature crown from flowers and leaves we found out and about.

I’m really impressed with this box, it’s been well thought out, especially the small touches that have been included. With other subscription boxes, I’ve found that we don’t complete all of the activities, because we can’t find something that’s required, or it just seems too hard. What’s so nice about the Mud and Bloom box is that nothing seems unachievable (even growing pumpkins!) The activities are ones that I wouldn’t have thought of doing, and give me inspiration for other things to try. It’s also really transferable; we could repeat the nature crown activity with things we find in Grandma’s garden for example, and there were enough seeds to plant more pumpkins and sweet peas.

We would definitely get this box again, and recommend it to others. There’s plenty in there for children of all ages, and that siblings can do together. The box is priced at £7.95 (including postage) and you can cancel or delay your subscription at any time.
