Julia Donaldson is the multi-awarding author behind such classics for children as The Gruffalo, Stick Man and Monkey Puzzle. Her books are loved by millions worldwide and have been adapted multiple times on screen and in theatres.

Freckle Productions are responsible for many of the stage shows, including Stick Man, Zog and Tiddler and Other Terrific Tales. We’ve been lucky enough to see these shows in our local theatres and my two children absolutely loved them. They’re a real treat with songs, drama and plenty of action that all of the family will enjoy.

Tabby McTat is the latest tale to get the Freckle Productions treatment and is touring the UK this summer. We caught the show in Worthing a few months ago and it was a big hit with my two children.

β€œMe, you and the old guitar,
How perfectly, perfectly happy we are.
MEEE-EW and the old guitar.
How PURRR-fectly happy we are!”

Along with other Julia Donaldson adaptations, the staging is simple and the cast consists of only four members but you don’t feel that you’re missing out. All of the characters make an appearance, thanks to some nifty costume changes and the dexterity of the performers. You get completely swept along in the antics of Tabby and Fred the busker, even if you’ve not had chance to read the book beforehand. Younger children will love the songs and dancing, and older ones will enjoy seeing the book characters come to life.

Tabby McTat will play at Theatre Royal Brighton on Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 August as part of their UK tour.

To celebrate Tabby McTat coming to Brighton, we have a family ticket (4 tickets) to give away to the performance on Monday 5th August at 1.30pm. Entries close at midnight on Sunday 21st July and it’s free to enter!

  1. My daughter love watching room on a broom when she went for her school trip. I’m sure she’ll love this.
