I’ve arrived quite late to the subscription box party, so have been trying to catch up a bit, especially kids-related ones. The latest one we’ve tried out is from Willow and Wild, and I’m kind-of upset that I’ve been missing out on this one!
It’s packed full of activities for children aged between 3 and 8. What I really like about this box is that there’s a range of types of activities in each one. Here’s what we had in our October box:
Craft – creating lollipop spiders and pumpkin lanterns
Gardening – beansprout seeds to grow (and a stir fry recipe to eat them in)
Cooking – conjuring up banana ghosts and spooky jelly
Educational – Halloween puzzle and noughts and crosses game, plus facts about bats and spiders
Outdoors – seed paper kit
All that, plus a lemon tea bag for the grown ups to relax with whilst the kids are occupied!
My children are aged 5 and 3 and really enjoyed the box. It was great that the activities were easy and quick enough that they could both do them (and not get bored), plus they also prompted some ‘out of the box’ activities. Everything we needed was included within the box, except for a stapler and some glue.
They particularly liked getting stuck into the seed paper task – involving making paper pulp, mixing it with rocket seeds, forming the mush into shapes and then drying them. The shapes can then be planted and the seeds will grow (fingers crossed). It was brilliant to have an inventive task, much more exciting than just straightforward seed planting. Plus, it’s a nice task that we can replicate again and again – I’m definitely keeping this in mind for homemade Christmas presents!
The Willow and Wild boxes change every month. There are two sizes available – the letterbox size that we received, plus a bumper size which has all of the activities plus some added extras. Subscriptions start from £7.25 per month for a 12 month subscription to the letterbox size, or a monthly subscription is only £8.95. There are also 3 and 6 month subscription options which would make a brilliant Christmas present option.
Willow and Wild offer a range of activity bags and party bags too, which make a refreshing change from the usual bits of plastic and sweets!
